Nicole Wu was born in Taiwan, educated in Japan and the United States, and moved to New Zealand in 2000.
Her artwork draws inspiration from her multicultural background, extensive travels, and thoughtful encounters with diverse people. She specialises in intricate porcelain making, crystalline glazing, blue and white glazing, acrylic painting, and 3D resin fish pieces—each requiring detail, patience, and originality.
Nicole learned pottery and ceramic arts from 4 professional potters in Christchurch and San Francisco since 2018 and travelled to Jingdezhen, China to study traditional Blue and White painting and other advanced pottery techniques.
With 25 years of experience guiding adult learning, Nicole approaches pottery teaching as a shared, reflective practice.
Her studio in Christchurch nearby University of Canterbury offers a therapeutic space where technique, material, and individual rhythm are gently held together.
